ITANAGAR: The Shi-Yomi district is completely cut off from other parts of Arunachal Pradesh after the strategic Sikam Sibu Bridge near Yapik village in the district was completely washed away due to heavy rainfall in the intervening night of June 2 and 3. Meanwhile, State Assembly Speaker Pasang D Sona on Thursday urged the Border Road Organization (BRO) to take immediate action to restore the bridge on Thursday.

In a letter to the Chief Engineer, Project BRAHMANK (BRO), the Speaker stated that the Aalo-Mechukha Road is the key and strategic lifeline for the movement of people, transportation of essential commodities, life-saving drugs, construction materials and movement of defence personnel in the entire District.

The early restoration of the bridge is of utmost importance, the Speaker said, adding that in view of the inclement weather, the supply of essential items and evacuation of emergency patients through sortie will also not be possible.

The restoration of the bridge on a war footing is the need of the hour to facilitate easy movement of men and materials and to tackle the emergency medical situation including COVID, he stressed.
