Itanagar: Following the guidelines of the Ministry of Environment to states asking them to ban the use of select single-use plastics effective from July 1, Mayor Itanagar Municipal Corporation -Tame Phassang cautioned the business community that trading licenses will be cancelled if did not abide by the order.

Speaking to the media, Mayor stated "It's a significant step to reduce the menace of plastic pollution; the Centre has issued guidelines to states asking them to ban the use of single-use plastics effective from July 1. Single-use plastics are typically items that are discarded after being used only once and do not go for recycling and danger to the environment."

"Yes, we agree that single-use plastic cannot be reduced in a single day, but we have to start from today to minimize its use. Indeed, denizens of the business community should use jute bag or any other bag which have fewer plastic materials. We will impose a fine and even trading licenses will be cancelled if any business owner is found defying the order after a few weeks of the implementation of the order," said Mayor-Tame Phassang.
