Student's body retrieved from Noh-Dihing River

After almost 24 hours of search-and-rescue operations, personnel of the 12th Bn of NDRF retrieved the body of 21-year-old college student, Mankai Wangpan,

ITANAGAR: After almost 24 hours of search-and-rescue operations, personnel of the 12th Bn of NDRF retrieved the body of 21-year-old college student, Mankai Wangpan, from the Noh-Dihing River, in Namsai.

Despite repeated and continuous attempts, the body could not be traced on Sunday. At 6 am on Monday, the NDRF team resumed the operation with the help of boats and deep divers today; and, within a few minutes the body was retrieved, informed Inspector of 12th Bn NDRF, Rakesh Kumar.

After completing the formalities, the body has been handed over to the local police, he added.

Earlier on April 24, MankaiWangpan along with two of his friends had gone for swimming in the river, where he reportedly drowned after a few minutes.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Mahadevpur Police Station vide No. u/s case no 2/2021 u/s-174 CrPc.

Inquest were done and after postmortem, the body has been handed over to the family members for conducting the last rites at his native village of Zedua in Longding district, informed Police.
