Tai Khamti elder Chow Meohou Namchoom no more

NAMSAI: Former Tai Khamti chief Chow Meohou Namchoom passed away at his residence in Chowkham on Tuesday. He was 80.

Born on August 17, 1942, he studied at the Government School in Chowkham and Don Bosco School in Guwahati. But he had to give up education and take up the family business when his father, Chow Nanda Namchoom, died.

With sheer hard work and dedication, he became a successful businessman and worked tirelessly for the betterment of the Khamti society. He took part in social activities till the very end.

He played a major role in helping the Indian Army during the Chinese aggression in 1962. He was honoured by the Indian Army several times for his valuable services to the nation during testing times.

Chow Meohou Namchoom served the Khampti society to the best of his abilities from a very young age. He was the president of the Tai Khamti Singhpoo Council and was later crowned the Tai Khampti chief. A devoted husband to the late Ikshima Namchoom and a loving father to his daughters, he was known for his wit, charm and kindness.

He is survived by daughters Sunita, Monalika and Suanjani and granddaughter Mira.
