Itanagar: The broadcasting from Tezu All India Radio station under North Eastern Service 100.1 FM (frequency moderator) which begun in New Delhi in 2002, has got a green signal to start 100 watt of FM interim transmission to relay local programmes from Itanagar AIR station.
The AIR is back on track due to improvised electronic system creating euphoria among the diehard radio listeners of this remote region. “We need special power backup to regulate and maintain temperature for constant power to the transmitters. But erratic power supply plays spoilsports”, rued practical machinist (PEX) Anand Miyi. “We have pleaded with the power department umpteen times to ensure steady power supply. The FM with ripples is creating problems for listeners in metropolitan cities. Moreover, it is the most effective media to disseminate news besides entertainment. The desired service could be ensured if special power is given to the station”, he added.
The All India Radio with its phenomenal growth over decades has made it one of the largest media organizations in the world. AIR today reaches out to 99.18 per cent of the population spread over about 91.85 per cent of the area through 262 broadcasting centres. The inception can be traced back to the enforcement of the Telegraph Act on October 10, 1885 though Radio Club of Bombay had begun broadcasting in June 1923.
