ITANAGAR: The Centre has sanctioned an integrated aqua park for Arunachal Pradesh with an overall cost of Rs 43.59 crore at Tarin, in Lower Subansiri district, for bringing blue revolution through suitable and responsible development of the fisheries sector in the state.

The central share of funding for the project is Rs 39.23 crore, a letter from the union ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to the state fisheries commissioner said.

The letter written on Friday informed that the Project Appraisal Committee on being apprised of the project under the centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) component of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampad Yojana (PMMSY) for 2022-23, during its 32nd meeting during July 19-21 last has recommended to the department saying that the administrative approval would be subject to terms and conditions of the guidelines of PMMSY as notified earlier.

The Centre would release the funds in four instalments and the release of each instalment would be subject to submission of at least 75 per cent of the fund released previously, said the letter.

Paddy-cum-fish cultivation is practised mainly by Apatanis, a progressive agricultural community of Ziro Valley of the district.

The Apatani version of paddy cultivation is one of the most advanced cultivation practices. The main advantage of the practice is that the land gives sustained yield year after year, unlike the jhum system. Tarin Fish Farm (TFF) was set up in the district in 1985-1986 under the NEC scheme at a high altitude at Bulla village.

The farm surrounded by pine and bamboo groves is spread over a 7.4 hectares area having around 74 ponds, including 46 nurseries, 16 rearing ponds and 12 stocking ponds.

The farm is one of the popular tourist attractions and known for the breeding of high-altitude fishes, an official from the district said.
