ITANAGAR: A mass toy donation drive has been launched in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh from July 19 this year in all the Anganwadi centres of the district to encourage the people to donate as many old toys as possible to their respective Anganwadi centres so that every underprivileged child gets an opportunity to have holistic development through toys, games, and storybooks. This is an initiative by West Kameng deputy commissioner Akriti Sagar, who during her first interaction with all the heads of departments of the district directed them to donate toys to Anganwadi centres.

The effort was to bridge the gap between privileged and underprivileged children by instilling values of sharing and caring in each child. It is under the aegis of the new Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, which seek to address the challenges of malnutrition in children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers through a strategic shift in nutrition content and delivery and the creation of a convergent eco-system to develop and promote practices that promote health, wellness, and immunity. It is also aimed at contributing to the human capital development of the country through early childhood care and education (3-6 years) and early stimulation (0-3 years). One such medium through which the holistic development of a child would be possible is through the play and learn method, in which much focus is given to the play mode and a child is provided with ample amounts of play materials like toys and other teaching and learning materials (TLM) to expand their horizons of creativity and knowledge by exploring and understanding their immediate environment. As such, a total of 471 toys were collected from all the ICDS projects in the district, the release added.
