ITANAGAR: Union Minister Dr Subhas Sarkar on Tuesday said that under the new National Education Policy (NEP), focus has been given on promoting mother tongue and regional languages.

Presiding a meeting at Namsai district of Arunachal Pradesh to review NITI Aayog's aspirational district programme, the Union Minister of State for Education said that the education policy had no motive to impose the use of Hindi language.

Namsai is one among the 112 districts of the country taken under the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) of the NITI Aayog, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2018. The aim of the programme was to quickly and effectively transform 112 most under-developed districts across the country.

The minister lauded the district administration for achieving various targets and good work progress in all the sectors and took a comprehensive sector wise review of the ADP, an official communiqué informed. During his interaction with the officers, Sarkar sought information on any gaps and observations made in the field that needed to be focussed on. He emphasised on promoting cleanliness amongst students and teachers in every school and advised that the message of using water twice - before and after the use of toilets should be displayed in all the school toilets.

The minister also advised the deputy director of school education (DDSE) to conduct quarterly faculty and parameter improvement meetings. On the Jal Jeevan Mission, the minister urged the officials to create awareness among the masses to instill in them the sense of ownership. He added that the matter for establishing a medical college in Eastern Arunachal would be endorsed to the ministry.

"Team Namsai can change the economy, healthcare, education and other sectors of the district, for which all the stakeholders should aim to work dedicatedly to make historic changes for the district," the minister stressed. "Good governance depends on the ability to take responsibilities, not alone the responsibilities entrusted to us by the government but also the civic responsibilities," he added.

The minister later laid the foundation stone for a birth waiting home (Pratikshya) funded by NITI Aayog at Namsai and visited various ongoing central schemes and interacted with the beneficiaries. The review meeting primarily focussed on indicators, including health and nutrition, education, agriculture, financial inclusion and skill development.

Earlier, Namsai DC C R Khampa highlighted the status of Aspirational district programme, its progress and the areas which need improvement. As per delta ranking of September this year, Namsai district is ranked 38th under ADP.
