ITANAGAR: The PWD (Highway) Chief Engineer S Sumnyan on Wednesday said that the underpass at Bank Tinali would not be completed by August 15 but might take a few more days to be operational for vehicular movement.

The CE along with the Highway authority on Wednesday inspected the ongoing construction of the underpass. CE S Sumnyan said that efforts were being made to complete the underpass as early as possible. However, he made it clear that the underpass would not be completed by August 15 but would take more days to complete.

He said that going through progress of the work and other factors, the underpass might be operational by August 20. He also appealed to the public to support the workers and let the work be completed with 'quality' for public use.

"As per the contract, the underpass construction is supposed to be completed by September next month. However, looking into the problems faced by the public and huge traffic congestion, we are putting in effort to complete the underpass as soon as possible," he said. He also informed that the culvert which was being constructed near the BSNL office would take time to be completed.

Meanwhile, one of the staff from the construction company said that it would take a couple of weeks to complete the culvert. He said that one of the service roads at the underpass was being opened from Wednesday for vehicular movement. He also informed that the Bridge 1 and 2 at Chandranagar were yet to be completed. "The bridge-2 at Chandranagar will be completed by the second week of August. We are also hoping that the Bridge-1 will be completed by the middle of September," he added.
