ITANAGAR: Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has assured Arunachal Pradesh that necessary funds will be allocated by the Centre for the upcoming development projects in Itanagar, a senior official said on Saturday.

A team of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) officials, led by Mayor Tame Phassang, had on Friday met the Union minister for housing and urban affairs in Delhi and apprised him of the civic body's plans for the state capital and its adjacent areas.

The team also sought funds for setting up a solid waste management plant, a proper drainage system, and multi-level car parking facilities.

During the meeting, Phassang pointed out that Itanagar, being the capital city, needs to upgrade its infrastructure to be able to boost the economy of the state, the official said.

The mayor further noted that the proposed projects would generate employment opportunities.

According to the official, Puri appreciated the IMC team for its efforts and assured that necessary funds will be disbursed by the Centre for its projects. The minister promised to visit Arunachal Pradesh sometime soon, the official added.
