Use artwork to create social awareness: Speaker Passang Dorjee Sona

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Passang Dorjee Sona on Sunday congratulated the members of AAFA (Arunachal Akademi of Fine Arts) for successfully putting up the beautiful art exhibition depicting beauty of State's rich culture at the assembly premises to mark the 'World Art Day'.

Giving away prizes to the winners, the Speaker said that the Assembly is committed to promote homegrown talents especially their creative and art works, the Speaker informed that for the last few years the Assembly has involved and put in local talents in creative works of the Secretariat.

He also assured all support from Assembly in the future also if they come up with such creative initiatives.

While praising all the artists for putting up their beautiful works in the four-day exhibition, the Speaker said that each painting and art work carries some meaning which is appreciable beyond words. "Unlike text where we write so many things to pass a message, the painting is a good medium to express one's view," said the Speaker while suggesting that the artists should use their artworks to create awareness on social causes and also reflect contemporary issues.

HibuTamo of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) was adjudged the winner of the World Art Day painting competition in the senior category while DeepjoySubba of RGU and Soma Barman of DeraNatung Government College (DNGC) bagged the second and third prize respectively. In the junior category, RagoTaku of Green Mount School, Itanagar was declared winner while NongmaitemSumanLuwang of VKV, Nirjuli and KennaTamuk of Green Mount School, Itanagar received the second and third prize respectively.

Altogether 18 artists in senior and 20 in junior category respectively took part in the painting competition. The closing ceremony programme was also attended by Assembly Secretary KagoHabung, Special Secretary to Speaker P N Thongchi and AAFA president GyamarNanam.
