ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh government has decided to install VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) for education via satellite in selected government schools across the State. As a pilot project, more than 50 VSATs would be installed with the capacity of connecting more than 100 government schools, informed official sources here.

In this regard, State Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar held a video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Deputy Directors of School Education (DDSEs) on Thursday. He directed them to create a dedicated classroom in the schools for the virtual mode using the available inventories. Kumar said that commissioning of VSATs across government schools would be a game changer in school education in the State.

"The VSAT technology will enable two-way virtual communications between teachers and students in remotely located schools of the State. It will enhance the quality of education and help the students to access better education facilities especially when there is absence or shortage of subject teachers," said the Chief Secretary.

Kumar directed the DCs and DDSEs to extend logistic support for commissioning of the VSATs in select government schools on or before February 18.

The CS also informed that as of now, 300 government primary schools have been identified as activity-and-learning centres for children between the age groups of three to six years as per the 'New Education Policy-2020'. "These centres for pre-primary and primary children will be extended to the rest of the schools subsequently," he added. Kumar also directed the DCs and DDSEs to identify one classroom which should be converted into the activity-and-learning centre for these children. Education Secretary Niharika Rai and Tax & Excise Secretary Anirudh Saran Singh were present during the meeting.
