ITANAGAR: Keeping in view the sudden spurt in COVID-19 cases in the past couple of days, the Capital Complex administration in Arunachal Pradesh has decided to impose a week-long from May 10 next.

The Capital Complex region comprises Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa areas.

Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom during a virtual press conference on Friday informed that the lockdown would come into force from 5 am on May 10 and would remain applicable till 5 am on May 17.

"The lockdown is being imposed as a precautionary measure taking into consideration the sudden spurt in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the region," Potom said.

The Capital district administration had on Thursday declared several areas of the capital as micro containment zones.

Potom said contact tracing would be intensified during the lockdown period and further appealed to all the citizens to strictly follow the SoPs.

On availability of essentials, the DC said that provision would be made in the respective colonies and sectors in coordination with the police and market associations.

"The administration along with Arunachal Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee is trying to set the price of commodities to avoid black marketing," Potom said.

He assured that the people would not face any issues this time around as they did during last year's lockdown.

The two-day buffer period (May 08 and 09) is for the people to buy their essential commodities.
