BORDUMSA: The COVID-19 tally here in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh reached 37 after seven fresh infections were detected on Thursday during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT). All the fresh cases are asymptomatic and in good condition.

Among the new cases are six members of a family including a two-year-old child residing in the ADC colony and an elderly neighbour. The head of this family sells clothes on an open space beside the Monday Market along the Assam-Arunachal border. "A trader and his family members tested positive today," said Changlang DC, adding, "Contact tracing and RAT in all vulnerable rural pockets are being effectively launched."

He further said, "In view of rising cases, the administration has decided to enhance the containment period in Bordumsa and is drawing up a mechanism for home delivery of edible items."

The past five days in Bordumsa witnessed a rapid surge in positive cases which began initially with five cases on July 24.

Meanwhile, Dr Gumlat Maio who has been leading the Bordumsa CHC team said, "A total of 68 tests were conducted today. Those in the Galenja Village — where an infected person had recently attended a funeral — gave negative results." "Bordumsa is passing through a case of local transmission. We're trying to arrest further spread of the disease by various means. But we lack the infrastructure; besides we are short of manpower," said the doctor.

"Your safety is my prime concern and as such I urge upon my Bordumsa brethren to remain at home and help in preventing the further spread of the disease for the sake of your family and society as well ', urged the local MLA Somlung Mossang.

However conscious cirlces are worried over some aberrations: While total lockdown is being observed by the people in some pockets, a section of people are still reportedly moving in and out of the border through some secret passages. Moreover, some villagers are intentionally absorbed in gambling and playing tambola and ludos without maintaing the social distancing norms which might foil all efforts of the frontline workers in arresting the spread of COVID pandemic.
