Itanagar: The World Wildlife Fund-India (WWF-I) has erected a 2-km-long solar-powered fence along with the community conserved forests (CCF) in Chug valley in West Kameng district as part of its wildlife conservative efforts.
The WWF-I also tilled nearly four acres of land, using a tractor, at Tsangpa village in Chug valley, under the Dirang subdivision.
“It is a part of incentive program to the villagers for the conservation of wildlife in the area,” WWF-I Senior Project Officer, Pema Wange, said in a release.
He said that it was for the first time that a tractor has been used to plow the land for cultivation in Chug valley for growing various cash crops which would augment the villagers’ income.
“It would also help reduce the villagers’ dependence on forest resources and ensure preservation and conservation of the wildlife and other valuable resources,” Wange said.
The West Kameng Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Dirang-based National Research Center on Yak are helping the WWF-India in this program in all ways possible, he added.
