ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte Friday termed youth the game-changers for the nation and urged them to have a different mindset from the common people.

Addressing the two-day state-level youth symposium, Pongte, while referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mission to make India a Vishwa Guru by 2047, called upon the young generation to move forward with the PM's 'panchpran," or five pledges, to fulfil the dreams of the freedom fighters in the next 25 years.

Touching on the session's topic, 'Youth unemployment challenge in Arunachal and the role of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC),' the deputy speaker exhorted the youths to consider the dignity of labour and take up business ventures.

He further urged them to judiciously use the state's resources and generate income for the upliftment of the economy.

On the "Indigenous Rights and the Chakma-Hajong Imbroglio: Emerging Realities and Democratic Solutions" topic, Pongte said that over the years, the Chakma-Hajong issue has transformed, which requires a different method of approach now.

Pongte also spoke about the consequences of youth substance abuse and suggested they ponder the menace.

Speaking at the event, state Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Mama Natung advised the youth to embrace 'responsibility, accountability, and ownership' within themselves to see the change in society.

Stating that the programme is a way forward for the future of the state, he requested the organizers submit the symposium proceedings to the government so that the thoughts of the 21st century reach the government's policy-making level.

Highlighting the success of the Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan, he advocated for the conservation of wildlife, which contributes immensely to the ecosystem.

He also asked the gathering to pledge not to eat wild meat, especially birds.

Youth Parliament President Prem Camdir Tallang said that the forum is a platform where youth can interact with policymakers.

He asked the participants to be tolerant of the ideas of the panellists and fellow delegates and to attend the programme with an open mind.

The event, organized by the Arunachal Youth Parliament in collaboration with the state youth affairs department, with the theme "Reimagining our Futures Together: Youths as Agents of Change,' is being attended by students and research scholars from various colleges and higher education institutes across the state capital.
