TEZPUR: A team of Tezpur police led by SI Simanta Pathak, Inspector-in-charge of Borghat Out Police post and SI Naren Chetia, along with the team, apprehended a drug peddler, Abul Kashem (25) with suspected contraband from his residence at Khaloibil Jurgarh village under Tezpur PS and recovered 36 (3.20 gm) small plastic containers with suspected brown sugar.
A case has been registered under Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. In another raid conducted by Sonitpur police at Medhi Chuburi village under Dhekiajuli Police Station in Sonitpur district, 14 persons were arrested red-handed while they were gambling with playing cards illegally at an abandoned house in the middle of a field at Medhi Chuburi village. Police also recovered cash Rs 41,210, four packs of playing cards and eight mobile phones from their possession, Additional SP (Headquarter) Madhurima Das said.
