BAKSA: The 12-hour Assam bandh called by the Kalita Janagosthi Joutho Sangram Samiti on Saturday demanding ST status for the Kalita community of Assam, affected normal life in Baksa district. There was, however, no report of any untoward incident, police said. The bandh, which began at 5 am, brought life to a standstill in Tamulpur subdivision along with other subdivisions of Baksa. Shops and business establishments remaining closed and vehicular traffic remained off the roads. Bandh supporters blocked the Rangia-Tamulpur-Bhutan road and a number of vehicles were stranded, causing traffic congestion.The bandh supporters burnt tyres on the road at Tamulpur Puron Chowk and shouted slogans demanding ST status.
