KOKRAJHAR: A special discussion was convened by the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on the matter of draft delimitation published on June 20 by the Election Commission of India (ECI), at the Barma College auditorium hall on Sunday.
In the meeting as many as 13 organizations, including Bodo national and political parties like Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA), All Bodo Women’s Welfare Federation (ABWWF), Bodo Cine Artistes’ Association (BCAA), BDTA, All Bodo Primary Teachers’ Association (ABPTA), BYWF, AAPCBTR, All Assam Tribal Sangha (AATS), Ex-NDFB United Forum, UPPL, BPF, BDJA and UCHPCDC including the community leaders and intellectuals were present in the discussion. The meeting was chaired by the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro.
Taking the opinion from the leaders of all party and organizations in the meeting the house resolved some vital issues for joint initiative to be represented with the Election Commission of India and submission of memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam. The special discussion held with the Bodo national organizations and political parties in presence of community leaders and intellectuals welcome the keeping of status quo of Kokrajhar parliamentary ST reserved seat and the allocation of 15 assembly seats in BTR.
Meanwhile, the house also showed strong reaction to the Election Commission for not considering the demands made by the Bodo national organizations and political parties on the demand for creation of Udalguri parliament constituency with coterminous LACs of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Further, the organizations demanded the enhancement of ST reserved LACs in BTR. The meeting also highlighted that the Bodos in Gohpur in Sonitpur district and other areas of Assam must be kept intact with the LACs instead of bifurcating to microscopic minority.
The meeting also unanimously resolved to submit to the Election Commission a memorandum with joint signatures of 13 organizations, community leaders and intellectuals on the key demands that include creation of Udalguri Parliament Constituency within coterminous LACs of BTR only, increasing ST reserved LACs in BTR up to 10 ST reserved seats and keeping intact Bodo dominated areas in the draft delimitation of LACs in Assam without bifurcation in microscopic population.
