LAKHIMPUR: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma strictly instructed the academic staff of Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) to stay in Lakhimpur and extend their sincere service to the institution.

The Chief Minister issued the instruction while holding a meeting with the LMCH academic staff on Thursday. Notably, a section of newly-appointed academic staff of the LMCH has allegedly abstained from their service staying away from Lakhimpur under various pretexts. The Chief Minister reportedly expressed his resentment against the section of the LMCH academic staff in the meeting.

The Chief Minister held the meeting in LMCH by visiting the medical institution after the cabinet meeting in Dhemaji. Health minister Keshab Mahanta, Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka, former P&RD minister-cum-Dhakuakhana MLA Naba Kumar Doley were also present in the meeting.

Later interacting with the media persons, Sarma said that he instructed the LMCH authority to shift the indoor patients to the new buildings from the old buildings of North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital. He informed that the Lakhimpur Cancer Hospital, which is under construction at present, would be inaugurated in June of 2022. "A total of 13 cancer hospitals will be functional across the State in the next year," Sarma added.
