13 railway stations under Tinsukia Railway Division to be redeveloped

TINSUKIA,: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of 32 railway stations in Assam, of which 13 railway stations under Tinsukia Railway Division will be redeveloped with state-of-art facilities that include passenger amenities as well as upgradation and replacement of existing facilities under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

At a glittering programme held at New Tinsukia Railway Station, Rameswar Teli, Union Minister of State for Petroleum & Natural Gas, inaugurated the foundation stone plaque in presence of Divisional Railway Manager Tinsukia, Uttam Prasad, Kajal Gohain, chairman of Tinsukia Development Authority, Pabitra Gogoi, chairman of Tinsukia Municipal Board, besides other dignitaries and railway officials.

Later, DRM Prasad told media persons that Rs 303 crore will be invested in 13 stations, namely Mariani, Dibrugarh, Jorhat Town, Makum Jn, Margherita, Amguri, Naharkatiya, Tinsukia, Duliajan, Simalguri, New Tinsukia, Namrup and Sibsagar Town under Tinsukia Railway Division. The DRM further stated that the Northeast has been allotted a record budget of Rs 10269 crore in this year’s budget emphasizing the region’s importance in the railway development plans. The total investment in Amrit Station Scheme in NFR is to the tune of Rs 5100 crore, said Prasad. Elaborating further, he said the goal was to develop 56 stations in the Northeast region into world class railway stations, of which 56 stations are located in the and foundation stone will be laid for 32 stations while 13 stations are located under Tinsukia Railway Division.

The DRM also outlined the facilities planned under ABSS which include smooth access to railway stations by removal of unwanted structures, improved lighting, better circulating area, upgraded parking space, divyangjan friendly infrastructure, environment friendly building by use of Green Energy etc.
