The 13th biennial convention of Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU), which began on Saturday here at Phani Sarma Bhawan, concluded on Sunday with the formation of a new central committee for the next two years.

GOALPARA: The 13th biennial convention of Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU), which began on Saturday here at Phani Sarma Bhawan, concluded on Sunday with the formation of a new central committee for the next two years. The two-day convention has elected senior journalist Swapan Kumar Rabha as president, Mausam Jyoti Baishya as executive president and Sarat Hancho as secretary general. Snigdha Shikha Bora, noted electronic media journalist of the state, was conferred the Buddhindra Nath Hazarika award in the same meeting which was given away by the Biswanath district APCU in collaboration with its central committee.

The concluding open session, which was presided over by the outgoing president Abdul Khalek, witnessed a hugely applauded speech on the current socio-economic scenario of the state by another leading senior journalist of the State, Prakash Mahanta. Dr Siddhinath Sarma, academician and president of the reception committee in his speech, appealed to the journalists of Assam to focus on Sri Surya Pahar and explore its archeological value.
