14 missions to help BTC achieve Sustainable Development Goals

The missions taken up by the UPPL (United People’s Party Liberal) led BTR government is to lead the council towards the path of sustainable development in various sectors.

KOKRAJHAR: The missions taken up by the UPPL (United People's Party Liberal) led BTR government is to lead the council towards the path of sustainable development in various sectors. The present government led by Pramod Boro has already prepared 'Vision Document' to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), a holistic agenda to bring peace and equal development. The missions undertaken by the government are expected to be a key highlight in the celebration of the completion of two years of the UPPL-led current BTC government, which will be held on December 20 at the BTC Secretariat Field, Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar.

To achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), 14 missions in different entrusted departments have been taken up and long drawn strategies are prepared to bring effective development.

'CEM Super- 50 Mission' for UPSC is taken up under Education Department. It is an initiative of the BTC government for providing 11 months of free residential coaching to civil service aspirants coming from economically-weaker sections of BTR. Altogether 50 meritorious students from five districts of BTR are undergoing UPSC coaching in New Delhi.

'Bodoland School Adoption' is another ambitious mission under education department whose objective is to provide a healthy environment in government schools by improving the infrastructural and academic environment in schools through civil society by means of school adoption. 500 schools (100 schools in each district) adopted by leading citizens of the region in an effort to improve the learning environment in schools by engaging with students and teachers and also improving the physical infrastructure of the schools.

'Bodoland Handloom Mission' is undertaken by the Handloom and Textile department of BTC with an aim to provide a holistic and infrastructural development for handloom in BTR covering 5000 beneficiaries every year.

The department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary adopted 'Bodoland Pig Mission' with an objective to transform the traditional livelihood of pig-rearing into a sustainable economic activity and to make BTR self-sufficient in pork production and to increase production of one lakh kilogram of pork per day by 2025. To achieve the objective of mission, the BTR authority has signed MoU with Symbiotic Foods, one of the largest pig breeders and pork producers in the North East to impart training to more than 6000 farmers in scientific and commercial pig rearing and identification of top 20 pig farmers in each district (total 100 farmers) for the first batch of training to improve bio-security measures in their farms.

The Sericulture department has taken up "Bodoland Sericulture Mission" with an aim to support 40,000 Eri Silkworm rearers and 10,000 silk weavers of BTC area through different converging agencies during the next three years i.e. January 2023 to December 2025 to double their income and create an infrastructure for marketing and production. The department has organized workshop bringing together nine different government agencies for convergence. It has also organized Training of Trainers (ToT) programme for the important stakeholders in the Sericulture department.

The department of Skill Employment and Entrepreneurship Development is undertaking the "SEED Mission" to skill 50,000 youths over the next three years, and the department has already trained 4,680 youths on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), while the Industries and Commerce department is undertaking the "Bodoland Trade and Industrial Development Corporation Limited (BTIDCL)" mission to set up infrastructure and to undertake any industrial, commercial, and related activities in thMoU with M/s Soft Solution India Pvt. Ltd. on electronic waste recycling was made, discussions with the Floverich Group for setting up two mini-food parks in BTR was also held. The group has decided to form a special purpose vehicle to execute the project in PPP model and discussions with Canara Bank and Union Bank for loan as well as for signing of MoU for investment in BTR were also held.

The department of Woman and Child Development has undertaken mission of 'Bodoland Community Counseling Centre' in which the department has setup Bodoland Community Counseling Centre one in each district of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur and Udalguri during the year 2022-23 to provide exclusive counseling and assisting services to women, adolescent girls and children in their needs in BTR area. Besides, the government has launched 'Mission Bwiswmuthi' under Land and Revenue department to simplify all land related works.
