15-day workshop on Bihu dance concludes in Dhubri district

DHUBRI: The 15-day workshop on Bihu Dance organized by the Gauripur Cultural Centre under the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, at Gauripur of Dhubri district, concluded on Tuesday. The workshop started on February 8 and came to an end on February 22.The resources person Sri Mrinmoy Chandra Ray and Assistant Resources person Miss Satarupa Kashyap of Gauripur conducted the workshop.

A total of 50 students of Dhubri district participated in the workshop and presented wonderful performance on the concluding day. The workshop was inaugurated by Goalparia folks artist of Dhubri district, Bablu Ray and Ashok Kumar Chakraborty in presence of local people.

The Gauripur Cultural Centre under the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, conducts regular workshop on various art forms, folks dance, folk songs and drama etc. as a part of awareness programme and also trains the local children on these subjects.

While talking to The Sentinel, Officer-in-Charge of Gauripur Cultural Centre, Himanshu Saloi informed that the Bihu dance workshop was an attempt to impart the true essence of the traditional Bihu dance.

"Such workshops and training on cultural and traditional subjects not only help build a sense of cultural value but also go a long way in preserving and protecting the culture, and teach the upcoming generation to remain rooted to the tradition and culture of their land," Saloi added.
