Tezpur: The 150th anniversary celebrations of Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School was kicked off at the school premises on Thursday with a four-day programme.
Tezpur Government Higher Secondary School was established in the year 1868, on the North Bank of the Brahmaputra River of Tezpur town. It is one of the oldest educational institutions of Assam. Since then it has produced a number of brilliant students who have excelled in different fields within the country and abroad.
The first day’s programme started with hosting of the 150th anniversary flag by Dr Biswa Ranjan Kalita, veteran player and president of the reception committee. The school flag was hoisted by Rekha Goswami, Principal of Tezpur Government H S School. The smriti tarpan was performed by Joyram Hazarika, Inspector of School. Later, Khiradhar Barua, noted educationist and former principal opened the door of the exhibition. Thereafter, Anuradha Sharma Pujari, senior journalist and author released the souvenir on the occasion.
Today, the programme began with banti prajjalan. Thereafter, a colourful rally was brought out in the morning joined in by thousand of students, former students and teachers throughout the Tezpur town and ended in the school premises. Later, felicitation meeting and group discussion programme, banti prajjalan in the evening and cultural functions, were the other programmes of the day.
Tomorrow at 10 am, a meeting of the alumni association under the chairmanship of Gyanendra Nath Bora will be held. Eminent artiste Dr Dijen Barua, academician Janardan Goswami, educationist Dr Satish Chandra Bhattacharjee, Former Principal of Darrang college Dr Abani Kumar Sharma, president of Ban Theatre Bankim Sharma, former teachers and alumni along with host of dignitaries attended the celebrations.
