SIVASAGAR: Along with rest of the State, the 159th birth anniversary of Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaruah was also celebrated in Sivasagar recently. Various organizations and institutions launched various programmes to commemorate the birth anniversary of the literary maestro. The Assamese department of Gargaon College also celebrated his birthday with a colourful ceremony. Bhaskar Baruah-directed movie Kathanadi based on some wonderful pieces of short stories from Burhi Aair Xadhu by Bezbaruah featured among various programmes presented in the celebration.
Lighting the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Bezbaruah, Pranab Dowarah, Head of Assamese Department, dwelt upon the undecaying contribution of the literary genius to the socio-linguistic, literary and cultural fields of Assam. Rendering deep respect to Bezbaruah as the forerunner and torchbearer of modern Assamese literature, Dowarah asserted that he had left behind an ever-enduring mark with his enormous creativity in the spheres of poetry, drama, short story, fiction, comics, criticism, biography, autobiography, children literature, history studies, journalism, etc.
