Dibrugarh: As part of the efforts of the State Government to affirm the land rights of the indigenous people, along with different districts of the State, 1,655 landless indigenous people of Dibrugarh district were also provided with land patta and distribution letters on Tuesday.
At an event organized under the aegis of the State Government’s Revenue and Disaster Management Department and district administration, the said letters were distributed. Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries and MP Rameshwar Teli attended the event. Asserting the move to be a historic one, he said that the State Government was able to deliver on its word to distribute such letters of land pattas among one lakh indigenous landless people.
Adding that the indigenous people, including the tea tribes, were previously not conscious of their land rights, Teli held that the present BJP government was striving hard to reaffirm those rights.
MLA Rituparna Baruah in his speech observed that such a bid was unheard of in the past. Similarly, MLA Chakradhar Gogoi also praised the government and opined that it would never take any decision that could go against the interests of the Assamese people. Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said in his speech that the recipients of the letters would now be entitled to different government benefits and eligible for bank loans.
GAURISAGAR: A ceremonial distribution programme of land patta and allotment of certificates to genuine landless people of Sivasagar district was organized on Tuesday at the Boarding Field, jointly by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department of the Assam Government, and Sivasagar district administration.

To achieve this goal, the minister urged the gaon burhas to generate awareness among the public.
