DOOMDOOMA: The 17th foundation day of Ellora Vigyan Mancha (EVM) was observed briefly by its Doomdooma branch with a day-long programme on Friday at Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX) Bhawan by strictly observing the guidelines of the lockdown and social distancing.
The programme got underway with unfurling of flag by president of EVM, Jhikananda Borgohain, followed by offering of floral tributes by vice-president Arjun Baruah in memory of Ellora Roy Chaudhury who died at an early age of 34 years and was the first woman of Assam to donate her body to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for the purpose of carrying out medical research. Later, EVM was founded in her memory to spread scientific temper and to fight against superstition and obscurantism in the society. The programme was also attended by Deben Deka, secretary of DSXX and drama activist Saranga Nath.
