TINSUKIA: The people of Tinsukia are now in a state of panic as the number of COVID-19 positive cases has been increasing at an alarming rate across the district and more particularly in Tinsukia municipal areas.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, 184 cases were detected, taking the total tally to 1,188. While 123 positive cases, largest ever in a day, tested positive on Wednesday, 61 cases were recorded on Tuesday. The general public in Tinsukia now desire to have total lockdown at least for a week to check the burgeoning spread of the disease, largely through community transmission. As a good number of employees from commercial institutions like banks and insurance companies have been affected and others are avoiding dealing with customers, the number of customers visiting banks has decreased.

"There is no point in keeping the banks open for general public when there are provisions for online banking for all services, except withdrawal of cash which can be done in ATM kiosks," said a bank official.
