TANGLA: Along with the rest of the world, Udalguri also observed the 199th International Nurses Day with the theme ‘Nurses a Voice to Lead’. Under the aegis of the nurses of Udalguri Block PHC and Orang Block PHC, the day was celebrated in a befitting manner at Udalguri PHC and Rowta Model Hospital on Sunday. Gracing the occasion as the chief guest, Joint Director of Health, Udalguri, Dr Tayebur Rahman unfurled the organizational flag and expressed his gratitude to the nursing fraternity for their relentless effort and hardships in enduring service to the mankind. Recalling Florence Nightingale, the English social reformer and the founder of modern nursing whose birth anniversary is commemorated as International Nurses Day, he acknowledged the strong commitment, compassion and dedication that nurses display in their profession.
Senior Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Ganesh Chandra Brahma paid floral tributes to the portrait of Florence Nightingale. Retired ANM, Bina Basumatari and ANM Sabita Boro were also feted on the occasion. In the open session, several distinguished persons like Dr. Ganesh Ch. Brahma, Dr. Aridom Bora and Dr. Rabin Deka highlighted the significance of the day and exhorted the nurses and doctors to be compassionate and caring towards patients.
