1st Biennial Conference of Bagh Hazarika Jagaran Mancha Held in Lakhimpur

The first biennial conference of the central committee of the Bagh Hazarika Jagaran Mancha, Asom held in Lakhimpur with a day-long programme on Sunday.

LAKHIMPUR: The first biennial conference of the central committee of the Bagh Hazarika Jagaran Mancha, Asom held in Lakhimpur with a day-long programme on Sunday. The event was organized in association with the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization in the conference hall of the Hotel Sharnaz, located in North Lakhimpur town.

The agenda of the event began with unfurling of the organizational flag by president Dr Poinuruddin Ahmed in the morning. Social worker Sajad Hazarika conducted the smriti tarpan programme. It was followed by the last executive body meeting of the past session of the organization. On the other hand, the delegates’ session of the event commenced under the chairmanship of president Dr Poinuruddin Ahmed. Over 100 delegates from various districts of the State took part in the programme, wherein the 38-member executive body of the Bagh Hazarika Jagaran Mancha, Asom, for the upcoming session, was formed with Dr. Poinuruddin Ahmed (Guwahati) as president, Mosaddar Hussain, Syed Jun Rahman, Rafiquddin Ahmed, Ansaruddin Bora, Rajib Ahmed, Dr. Sanjan Ali Hazarika, Amirul Hazarika as vice-presidents, Samsul Barik (Sivsagar) as secretary, Asad Ullah and Jarir Hussain as assistant secretaries.

The open session-cum-public meeting of the event began with a Borgeet presented by vocal artiste Bonti Lekharu. It was chaired by president Dr. Poinuruddin Ahmed and inaugurated by Premadhar Borah, former Education Minister of the State. In his lecture, Premadhar Borah paid rich tribute to Bagh Hazarika, whose actual name was Ismail Siddiqui, appreciating his heroism in the Battle of Saraighat while assisting Lachit Borphukan. Borah further appealed to all to continue good works to strengthen the bond of communal harmony in the State against communalism and progress of the greater Assamese community.

Writer Mukut Sarmah of Guwahati graced the occasion as appointed speaker, who delivered lecture on ‘Role of Assamese Musalman in the social life of Assam’. In his lecture, Sarmah threw light on the contribution of the Assamese Muslims to the literary, cultural, social, political fields of Assam. Youth social worker-cum-columnist Dr. Jakirul Alom ceremonially released Jat-Ballabh, the annual mouthpiece of the organization. In the same programme, Bagh Hazarika Jagaran Mancha, Asom conferred the Bagh Hazarika Jatiya Chetana Bota (award) on Professor Rajib Hundique, the Head of the Department of History, Gauhati University, while lifetime achievement, contribution award was conferred on Professor Muhiuddin Ahmed, a historical researcher-cum-writer of Nagaon.

Eminent theatre personality Nazim Ahmed, professor Swapnali Gogoi, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) Principal Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia, Kamala Rajkonwar of Ahom Royal Society along with a galaxy of prominent figures took part in the programme wherein noted nonagenarian Jikir artiste Mohibur Rahman (popularly known as Bhodiya Kai) of Lakhimpur and his associates presented Jikir.
