25 arrested in HSLC paper leak case: DGP GP Singh

The DGP stated that out of the 25 arrested, 12 were adults who were remanded to three days CID custody for questioning.

DIBRUGARH: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh on Thursday said that the police has so far arrested 25 persons, including students in connection with the HSLC question paper leak scam.

Talking to media persons in Dibrugarh on Thursday, the DGP stated that out of the 25 arrested, 12 were adults who were remanded to three days CID custody for questioning. The 13 minors who were arrested were produced before the juvenile justice board and were interrogated inside juvenile homes with the permission of the court as per the guidelines of the Juvenile Justice Act, the DGP said.

The DGP further stated that police had detained three more persons in connection with the case on Wednesday night but they have not been arrested as yet.

The DGP said that the CID was investigating all the aspects of the case and added that there were 4-5 layers of the question paper leak through WhatsApp messages. The law enforcing authority has also contacted the WhatsApp authority to get the original source. Technical verification is also being done with various telecom service providers.

Most of the transactions, which amounted from Rs 100 to Rs 3000, were done through mobile wallet, the DGP said and added that transaction details have been sought from the headquarters of the agencies in Mumbai.

Earlier on Wednesday, the DGP also chaired a security review meeting at the Daulat Singh Negi Memorial Police Guest House in Dibrugarh with various agencies where the SPs of Upper Assam districts, CRPF, Army, Assam Rifles and central intelligence agencies were present. The DGP also visited the Dibrugarh central jail and attended a programme of the 171 Battalion of the CRPF at the Dibrugarh Police Reserve campus.
