29-year-old COVID-19 positive patient passes away in Golaghat

Guwahati: A Covid-19 positive youth from Assam's Golaghat district passed away on Monday after suffering from fever and cough for the past several days, reports said.

Golaghat Deputy Commissioner Bibhash Chandra Modi informed that the youth, Uttam Das (29), got admitted to the Golaghat Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital on July 7. However, he did not show any of the classic symptoms associated with the COVID-19 viral disease. Regardless, the hospital authorities collected swab samples and administered basic treatment to the man.

However, the youth started taking ayurvedic medicines which led to the deterioration of his condition. In view of his deteriorating health, the Golaghat authorities, but he succumbed to death en route -- in Dergaon.

After the youth's demise, the Golaghat district administration has declared the Popular Medical Hall as Containment Zone following the youth's death. Meanwhile, contact tracing has also been kickstarted by the authorities in a bid to break the chain of transmission.

Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 cases has continued to spiral upwards in the nation and the tally has risen above 8.78 lakh. Across India, about 5.5 lakh patients have recovered so far from the COVID-19 and 23,174 deaths linked to the highly contagious illness have been registered. In the last 24 hours, 500 deaths from various parts of the country were reported.
