3 arrested in connection with leaking Assam Police SI written test question paper

The written test for Assam Police sub-inspector (UB), originally scheduled for Sunday, was canceled after the leakage of question papers on social media

Guwahati: In a significant breakthrough, authorities have nabbed 3 persons in connection with the leakage of the Assam Sub-Inspector written examination question papers on Wednesday (September 23).

The Crime Branch of Assam Police arrested the main accused, Sanjib Sharma, from his residence in Guwahati city's Jyotinagar locality.

Another accused, Kushal Das, has been arrested from Bamundi in Kamrup district. The arrested person was a candidate in this examination and had reportedly collected the paper and had leaked it on WhatsApp.

One Hirakjyoti Barua was arrested by the CID from Karbi Anglong and forwarded to Court. The accused reportedly forwarded the question paper to a person in Golaghat through WhatsApp. Barua has been arrested in connection with CID P.S. Case No. 21/2020 U/S 120B/409 IPC R/W Sec 66 B of IT Act.

In another development, the CID recovered SI exam question papers from 'Thank You' lodge in Guwahati's Ganeshguri area.

In yet another related development, officials have seized a hard disk as well as some other incriminating materials from the 'Thank You' lodge.

Owners of the lodge -- Alakesh Baishya, Pranjal Sharma, and Bimal Thapa -- are being interrogated by the CID.

It needs mention here that Assam's Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, has ordered an inquiry into the leak of the question paper of the written test.
