LAKHIMPUR: Three Assam youths were reportedly kidnapped in Kankokpi in Manipur on Wednesday.

The kidnapped youths have been identified as Mandip Basumatary, resident of Madhabpur, Ward No 1 in Bokahan Town of Karbi Anglong district, along with Kamal Hazowari and Anup Mech.

In this connection, Mandip's wife Pramita Basumatari lodged an FIR in Bokajan Police Station on Thursday.

Regarding the incident of the kidnapping, Mandip's relative Manoranjan Basumatary, quoting the FIR, informed this correspondent that Mandip along with the two persons went to Kangkokpi in a Bolero vehicle, bearing registration number AS 03 AB 5177, on August 24 for some reason. On Wednesday, they informed Pramita Basumatary that they would start their return journey to Bokajan at 10 am. Since then, their mobile phones have been found switched off and no communication could be done with them till date.

The FIR further stated that an unknown person called from a mobile phone bearing number 8099860236 to 8761819046 demanding an amount of Rs. 50,00,000 for releasing the three persons. Mandip's wife requested Assam Police to rescue the three persons by launching an immediate operation.
