Three persons including two women were allegedly thrashed by locals at a village along the Indo-Bhutan border in lower Assam's Chirang district on Saturday.

According to official reports, a group of errant villagers raged against the two families over the suspicion of witch-hunting at Bhurbasti at late-night on Saturday.

Three persons who were injured seriously in the assault are identified as Parmeswar Sutradhar, Manjula Satrudhar and Gendi Basumatary.

"They did not ask us any question. They attacked our families over the suspicion of practising witchcraft. This is not done," stated one of the family member of the victims.

Notably, Runikhata Police arrived on the spot and recovered the victims. They were immediately then rushed to a nearby hospital.
