3- Day 15th Assam Assembly Session Begins

Phani Bhushan Choudhury administers oath of office and secrecy to all 126 newly-elected MLAs

Guwahati: The first sitting of the 15th Assam Legislative Assembly session has begun on Friday, May 21.

All the newly elected 126 MLAs were administered the oath of secrecy. Jayanta Mallah Barua, MLA from Nalbari took oath in Sanskrit. Few of the MLAs took the oath in Bengali.

Jailed president of Raijor Dal also took oath of office as Sibsagar MLA. He was granted bail to attend the Assembly session.

On the second day of the session on May 22, the Governor would address the Assembly and on May 24, the concluding day of the three-day Assembly session, a motion of thanks for Governor's speech has been scheduled. May 23 is Sunday, so there will be no sitting of the Assembly.

AGP leader, former Assam Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and 8-time MLA from Bongaigaon, Phani Bhushan Choudhury administered the oath of office as the pro-tem speaker.

The members of the BJP have selected the two MLAs of Panery and Bokajan – Biswajit Daimary and Numal Momin as the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Assam Assembly.

This is the first Assembly session after the Assam Assembly Elections of 2021. There are a total of 14 Cabinet Ministers including CM Sarma.

There are 6 new faces in the Assam Council of Ministers –

• Assam BJP President Ranjit Kumar Dass, Patacharkuchi MLA in charge of Panchayat and Rural Development, Public Health Engineering, Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs

Bimal Bora, Tingkhong MLA who has been given the portfolios of Cultural Affairs, Tourism, Power and Sports and Youth Affairs,

Dr Ranoj Pegu, Dhemaji MLA in charge of Education and Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes- non-BTC,

Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Chapaguri MLA in charge of Handloom & Textile, Soil Conservation, Welfare of Plain Tribe & Backward Classes,

Ashok Singhal, Bilasipara East MLA in charge of Guwahati Development, urban Development, Irrigation

• Veteran politician from Golaghat, Ajanta Neog in charge of Finance and Social Welfare
