30 School Students Injured After Hanging Bridge Collapses In Karimganj District Of Assam

According to villagers, this is the only bridge which they are using for past several years to reach other areas and schools.

Guwahati: 30 school students, who were returning home from school through a hanging bridge, were injured after the bridged over river Singla collapsed on Monday.

The incident took place in Assam's Karimganj district when the students were trying to cross the river the bridge suddenly collapsed and the students fell into the river. The only bridge bridge connects the Cheragi area with the village.

According to villagers, this is the only bridge which the locals and students are using for past several years to reach other areas and schools.

Soon after the incident they were rushed to hospital by locals.

Earlier, at least six people died as a bus carrying at least 22 passengers fell in a river bordering East Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills district at Nongchram village at around 12 am of September 29 . The MTC night bus, with 22 passengers onboard, was reportedly travelling at a very high speed between Tura and Shillong when it skidded off the bridge at Nongchram and plunged into the Ringdi river.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has expressed grief at the demise of the six person in the accident IANS ADDS: At least 16 people were injured when a Meghalaya state transport corporation passenger bus plunged into the Ringdi River in the wee hours of Thursday, police said. A senior police official here said that the night super bus fell into the Ringdi River at Nongchram in East Garo Hills District when it was traveling from Tura to state capital Shillong.
