GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma said that over 3000 cases of suicide incidents were recorded from the last as per the tally of last year.
On mentioning about the exact number of suicide cases recorded in 2021, the CM said 3095 people from the state died due to suicide in the previous year.
The chief minister stated that the number of suicide cases decreased in Assam as compared to the tally in the year 2020.
The CM while mentioning about the suicide cases in Assam in 2020 said that a total of 3243 suicide cases were recorded from the state in 2020.
On Monday 21 March the chief minister informed about the recent update regarding the suicide incidents that took place in Assam during the questioning hour while replying to a query by BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia.
CM Sarma further said that the government of Assam has taken various initiatives to raise awareness about better mental health and to address those issues related to mental conditions.
Such problems often led a person in choosing the final step of committing suicide therefore it is very important to deal with the mental health issues through different programmes.
According to the CM, the issue of mental health has an involvement in the incident of suicides so the state government is working on this by taking up programmes for the development and understanding of mental health conditions.
Moreover, the main cause for a person committing suicide may vary from incident to incident added the chief minister during the question session on Monday.
He further stated that police will start an investigation when they are informed about any suicide case and if any person or a group of people is found behind the suicide case then legal measures will be initiated against such people.
