331 quintals of Sali paddy seized in Dhemaji

LAKHIMPUR: A section of businessmen, whose objective is to earn only profit, has continued exploitation over the easy-going farmers' community of the State though the governments at the Centre and in the State have fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy. This section of businessmen have purchased the paddy from the farmers at a very low price instead of paying the MSP in order to earn more profit.

The government at the Centre has already fixed Rs 2,040 as MSP for paddy, per quintal for 2022-23 crop year in order to encourage farmers to bring more area under the crop and boost their income.

But the this section of businessmen, taking advantage of the ignorance of the most of the farmers, has cheated them in Dhemaji district by purchasing the paddy at low price. These businessmen have collected the paddy from the various villages under the district. Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji, Asim Kumar Bhattacharya has initiated steps to crack down the racket of these businessmen and instructed the Food and Civil Supply Department to take step against them. Following the instructions, Birinchi Kumar Dutta, the Assistant Director, Food and Civil Supply Department , Dhemaji seized a total of 331 quintal sali paddy by conducting a raid at three commercial institutions located at Moridhol Chariali. The commercial institutions are owned by three businessmen named Siddhu Rathi, Ramprit Singh and Prafulla Gogoi.
