337 people living with HIV in Kokrajhar: District AIDS Control Officer

KOKRAJHAR: The World AIDS Day was observed in Kokrajhar district at Nayekgaon community hall on Thursday. The day was organized by District AIDS Control Society in collaboration with Nayekgaon Anchalik Committee, ABSU and Care India Foundation (TI) NGO.

On this occasion, an awareness programme on HIV and AIDS was held where ASHA workers, gaon buras, members of Neyekgaon Anchalik Committee, ABSU, staff of Nayekgaon Hospital, members of Care India Foundation NGO and members of Balajan Tiniali Smile Welfare NGO were present.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Kaushik Das, District AIDS Control Officer, Kokrajhar and Prtikona Talukdar, Counsellor, ICTC, Kokrajhar spoke on AIDS. According to Dr Kaushik Das, District AIDS Control Officer, Kokrajhar, this year 33 new cases were diagnosed in Kokrajhar and 337 people are living with HIV in Kokrajhar which is very alarming. He called upon all to be cautious against the alarming HIV infection and asked to follow the medical guidelines to get rid of the killer disease.
