MORIGAON: The 350th unveiling of the traditional spiritual guide's mela, which had commenced from April 17, concluded with a grand colourful procession on Tuesday at Mayong. The spiritual guide's mela is popularly known as the 'Guhai Uliuwa' mela.
The traditional festival has been celebrated since 1668 AD. It is celebrated immediately after Bohag Bihu on 4 Bohag, 5 Bohag and 6 Bohag every year. The second day of the festival started with the blowing of conch shell and religious rituals. The devotees of the spiritual guide's mela brought out the five guhais (spiritual guides) from their permanently decorated thans with a grand procession. Later, the devotees kept the guhais at the rajasorat (place where the king takes rest) at Rajamayong.
After taking rest for a while, the grand procession led by the 'Pancha Guhains' moved towards the Bamun Guhain Than. The traditional kings of Mayong Taranikanta Singha, Deka Raja Biren Konwar, Tarani Deka, Bangthae kings Jadab Teron, Saru Bangthe Raja Rupeswar Timung participated in the historical traditional mela.
After the 'Pancha Guhains' procession arrived at Bamun Guhain Than, the devotees set the Pancha Guhains and the kings at their pre-decorated places.
Thereafter, traditional folk dances and songs were performed before the kings by artists. A souvenir Panchadevata, written by Dr Utpal Kr. Nath, was inaugurated by Professor (retired) of Dibrugarh University, Dr Sila Bora.
On Tuesday, which was the third day, the traditional Garbhang festival was organized at the 'rajasorat'.
