GUWAHATI: In a startling development, the Assam government has suspended 36 Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd(APDCL) officials for filing fake medical disbursement bills.
The government instituted an inquiry after it came to light discrepancies in the medical disbursement bills filed by some APDCL officials.
The inquiry also, reportedly, brought into light that some officials filed medical bills to take financial help from the government. Based on the findings, the government has served suspension notice to 36 officials of the company.
The officials include even deputy manager level officer, sources said. Besides, the police registered cases against them in Guwahati and Rangia.
Earlier, a man was arrested by police in Guwahati on Tuesday in connection with forged medical referral board documents. The arrested man was identified as Ganesh Kalita. Sources said the man Ganesh Kalita had been working in a state dispensary in the city's Khanapara area.
The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) authority had registered cases against 40 officials regarding fake medical certificates. On Tuesday, the hospital authority filed three more cases at the Bhangagarh police station.
A scam related to the medical reimbursement of government employees has come to light. The Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) authority has lodged FIRs against 39 government employees.

GMCH Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma told media persons in Guwahati on Sunday that the state-level Referral Board, GMCH had detected that fake referral certificates had been submitted by some government employees to get the benefit of medical reimbursement. From July 31, 2021, to date, the GMCH authority has lodged three FIRs against 39 such government employees at Bhangagarh Police Station. The Bhangagarh Police have registered three cases (432/21, 517/21 and 529/21).
Out of the 39 government employees, 36 are employees of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL), two are employees of the Elementary Education Department and one is an employee of the Finance Department.
