GUWAHATI: As the Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sharma Commission's investigation reveals significant irregularities against the accused officers in connection with the Assam Public Service Commission's (APSC) cash-for-job scam, problems escalate for 37 gazetted officers assigned to various departments of the Assam state government.

The most recent update in the ongoing investigation into the cash-for-job scandal is that the judicial panel inquiry has instructed DGP Guwahati to look into the 37 officials' involvement in the APSC cash-for-job scam, with a chance that all of the officers would be arrested very soon.

The massive APSC cash-for-job scam was the subject of an inquiry by the Dibrugarh Police. All of the answer papers were seized by the police during the inquiry and given to the Court of the Special Judge of Assam.

A one-man judicial inquiry commission headed by Justice (retired) Biplab Kumar Sharma was afterward constituted by the Assam government to look into claims of irregularities and malpractices during the 2013 and 2014 CCEs.

On September 13, the committee looking into the major recruitment scam case had already sent ACS Babul Saharia, the former Principal Controller of Examinations (PCE) of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), a notice.

In the 2014 APSC test scam case, new information was reportedly revealed by the investigation team led by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma. There are 15 days for Saharia, who served as PCE from 2016 to 2018, to come before the panel. He was in charge of both the basic testing and the result released in 2014.

The strong room was under the former PCE's supervision as well. Despite being fully aware of the swindle, Saharia is said to have kept quiet.

An earlier notification had been given to Bharat Bhushan Dev Choudhury, the current chairman of the APSC and a former principal controller of examinations. Choudhury, who was appointed APSC chairman on August 18, was serving as the primary controller of examinations when the scam occurred during CCE 2014. (PCE).
