375 fresh COVID cases detected in Dibrugarh district

The death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 96 till May 19 in Dibrugarh district.

DIBRUGARH: The death toll due to COVID-19 has risen to 96 till May 19 in Dibrugarh district. All total 375 fresh COVID cases were detected in the district on Wednesday. Earlier, on this day, 5,388 people underwent COVID tests out of which 273 detected positive in RAT test while 102 cases were detected in RTPCR tests conducted in the various centres, including Assam Medical College and Hospital here. The situation has worsened following detection of COVID infection in 52 prisoners in Dibrugarh Central Jail during recent COVID tests conducted among 523 inmates of the jail. The finance secretary of ULFA (Ind) Jiban Moran, who is presently in judicial custody in Central Jail, was also infected with COVID.

According to jail sources, initially an inmate was detected with COVID infection, which forced the jail authority to conduct COVID test in all prisoners and as a result, 52 new COVID cases were detected among the jail inmates. However, the sources confirmed that Jiban Moran was in an isolation room in the jail complex.
