400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan observed across Assam

Under the auspices of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) and with active cooperation of the people of greater Doomdooma area

DOOMDOOMA: Under the auspices of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) and with active cooperation of the people of greater Doomdooma area, a two-day-long programme to celebrate the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan was held at the premises of Saurabh Kala Parishad, Rupaisiding on Thursday and Friday.

The first day's programme got underway with hoisting of flags by the president of the celebration committee, Gobind Phukan and TAYPA, Tinsukia District Committee president Biswajit Phukan. It was followed by programmes like Maidam-Tarpan, garlanding of the portrait of Bir Lachit Barphukan and Khek-Free puja.

Former MLA Dilip Moran flagged off the cultural procession which began from Doomdooma Town Field and ended at the venue Saurav Kala Parishad after marching through the 4-km long path upto Rupaisiding.

The open session began thereafter with president of the celebration committee, Gobind Phukan in the chair. In the beginning, the women of Rupai-Doomdooma presented 'Aising Lau'. Arjun Baruah, president, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX), inaugurated the meeting. Dr Madan Sarmah, former Vice-Chancellor in-charge, Tezpur University, attended the programme as chief guest while former District Elementary Education Officer, Dibrugarh Durlabh Chetia attended the meeting as appointed speaker.

A souvenir Fu-han-lung published on the occasion under the editorship of Dipak Ranjan Baruah, Associate, Professor, Doomdooma College, was inaugurated by Dr Amarjit Saikia, Principal in-charge, Doomdooma College, and Principal, Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College.

The meeting was anchored by secretary Ratul Gogoi where altogether seven persons were felicitated in the meeting. They are former Principal, Doomdooma College and columnist Dr Prafulla Medhi, Jhumoir Samrat Padmashree Dulal Manki, journalist Arjun Baruah, former Associate Professor Chandrakanta Handique, leading businessman Tapan Gogoi, leading sportsperson Bhavesh Moran and upcoming entrepreneur Bobita Dowrah. They were felicitated with traditional Tai gamosa, Tai turban, seleng sadar and certificate. On the concluding day, a drama on Bir Lachit Barphukan, written by dramatist Prabin Phukan and directed by Jay Surya Bora, was staged.

HAFLONG: The district level week-long celebrations of the 400th birth anniversary of legendary Ahom general and national hero Bir Lachit Barphukan concluded with a day-long programme at District Library on Friday. The programme was organized by Dima Hasao district administration. A visual of the celebration in New Delhi was live telecast. After the end of the visual live telecast programme, prizes were given to students who won in various events that were held like essay, art, extempore speech and quiz competitions in the schools of Dima Hasao. The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao, Nazreen Ahmed, Principal Secretary, NCHAC, Thai Tsho Daulagupu, Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, Mayank Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and others dignitaries.
