45 bags of PDS rice seized, two arrested in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: Recently there has been a rise in cases regarding the illegal transportation of rice meant for Public Distribution System (PDS). In such a recent incident, police arrested two persons for illegally transporting 45 bags of rice meant to be distributed under Public Distribution System.

According to police, they have intercepted a DI vehicle bearing registration number AS33-C-0840 at Sepon. The vehicle was found stacked with 45 bags of suspected PDS rice which were being transported from Sivasagar to Sonari. The vehicle was driven by Bijoy Koya of Towkak, Sonari. Since, the driver could not show any documents of the rice, he was arrested. On interrogation, the driver revealed that the rice was being transported from the house of Ibrahim Ali of Darbar Road, Sivasagar. Accordingly, police arrested Ibrahim Ali. It needs mentioning that, Ibrahim Ali, during interrogation said that he was not a Fair Price Shop (FLS) dealer. But according to sources, he was running an FPS at Darbar Road, Sivasagar.
