4.6 Magnitude Earthquake Tremors Felt in Assam, Epicentre is Sylhet in Bangladesh

GUWAHATI: On Friday morning, earthquake vibrations were felt in Guwahati, Assam, and other parts of the North Eastern region. An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 was reported to have impacted the North Eastern region, as well as sections of Bangladesh.

This is the second earthquake of the week, following an earthquake of magnitude 5.4 that rattled Delhi, North India, and parts of Pakistan on Tuesday.

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred on June 16 at 10:16:15 IST, according to the National Centre for Seismology. The earthquake's precise coordinates were Lat: 24.86 & Long: 91.98, with a depth of 70 km in the Bangladesh region.

Moreover, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 struck near Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean on Friday.

According to the USGS, the epicentre of the earthquake occurred around 280 kilometres (174 miles) southwest of Tonga, at a depth of 167.4 kilometres (104 miles).

Following the quake, the US Tsunami Warning System stated that there was no tsunami hazard to the US West Coast, British Columbia, or Alaska.

On June 15, a powerful earthquake jolted regions of the Philippines southwest of Manila, but there were no early reports of severe damage or injuries. According to the US Geological Survey, the 6.2 magnitude morning earthquake occurred near Hukay and was roughly 120 kilometres below the surface.

On the other hand, on 29 May, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck Assam's Sonitpur early Monday morning. The earthquake struck at 8:03 a.m. on Monday, according to the NCS.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 15 km.
