48,908 people vaccinated in Sonitpur District

COVID-19 vaccination drive has been underway in Sonitpur District from January 16 along with rest of the country following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

TEZPUR: COVID-19 vaccination drive has been underway in Sonitpur District from January 16 along with rest of the country following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Dr Biman Sarmah, District Immunization Officer said that a total of 48,908 people were vaccinated in Sonitpur District till April 2. Out of the total persons, as many as 38,869 people got shots of Covaxin while 10,039 people were jabbed with Covishield.

Dr Sarmah further added that in the first phase, only health care workers (HCW) were included and a total of 8,138 persons were vaccinated. It has been found that most of the Anganwadi workers (AWW) did not turn up for vaccination in spite of repeated motivation.

In the second phase, front line workers (FLWs) were included and the vaccination programme started from February 18. A total of 18,259 FLWs were registered and out of which 12,199 were vaccinated with the first dose (66.8%) and 3117 were vaccinated with the second dose till April 2.

The third phase of vaccination has started from March 1 for citizen above the age of 60 and those above 45 years to 59 years with co-morbidities. A total of 17,380 citizens have been registered till April 2 and out of this 16970 has been vaccinated with the first dose.

In the fourth phase from April 1, all citizens above 45 years irrespective of co-morbidities have been targeted for vaccination.

In Sonitpur, a total of 37,307 beneficiaries were vaccinated with the first dose and 8176 beneficiaries were vaccinated with second dose on April 2. A total of 45,483 doses of vaccine (both Covaxin & Covishield) have been administered.
