5 Popular Front of India (PFI) cadres under police scanner in Silchar

SILCHAR: Despite ‘banned’ tag, Popular Front of India (PFI), a hard core Islamic organisation had reportedly been continuing its clandestine activities in various parts of Barak Valley, hinted a source in the State police. Intelligence inputs that the police had received a tip-off that at least five front runners of the banned outfits were operative in Katigorah area in Cachar district. Out of these five, two were the president and general secretary of the Cachar unit of the PFI. Police had already launched a search operation to nab them, but they had fled away. However, operation to catch was on, the source hinted. These five cadres were the residents of Lathimara, Harinagar, Rajatilla area of Katigorah bordering Bangladesh. Union Home Ministry in September 2022 had banned PFI for five years after a series of raids in the offices of the outfits in various states including Assam. PFI was allegedly having links with JMB of Bangladesh and even with ISIS.
